It almost makes sense, evolutionarily, since ants have already developed extremely effective trophallaxis, that there would be a queen ant born with the mutation to produce workers with more flexible stomachs. Those queen ants’ colonies were then more likely to survive dry and resource scarce areas, leading to these monstrous food tanks we see in front of us today. Life is a miracle.

I hope to keep this species at some point. They’re native to my state, as well as a great way for me to keep myself busy. A bit of a challenge for sure, but I’ll be excited when I can finally settle down and make this a reality.
