I have just started to tell some people that I'm hard of hearing. I haven't always been. I have over sensitized hearing but that means I can't hear specific things like people talking. I can hear inflection and try to put things together but if I have a migraine I can't hear anyone. It's been getting worse and worse. Same with my peripheral vision. I have to piece things together as well ā¤

2 of my 3 kids are hard of hearing. So many people are very misinformed about the Deaf community. I am always learning myself. But so many cannot understand the variation in hearing range and think Deaf os Deaf and Cochlears are the end all be all for everyone or that not hearing perfectly is somehow bad. Its just different and a bit of patience and respect really is the best thing for all.

My husband is hard of hearing because of his service in the Army when he was 18 years old. He was a Bradley tank gunner. He wears hearing aids and they help for 70% of the time but the other 30% is when he is in crowded environments where he canā€™t focus on just one voice. He also does not qualify for cochlear implants. He does have disability through the VA, but that does not improve his quality of life. We have went through sign language courses and know limited sign language. But it makes it hard when youā€™re an adult learning sign language and you canā€™t hear the word that the instructor is signing.

Though I have better than average hearing and can't see much without my glasses I can read lips because I grew up with deaf people around. P.s. I sign too.

I'm deaf in my left ear too and have very mild loss in my right ear. I don't wear hearing aids because growing up my hearing fluctuated so much that it was hard to give me some. They tried to before I turned 18 but when they tested the cross hearing aids I did worse with them so I got a Roger pen instead. I tried signing up for this program that gives free hearing aids but idk what's going on with it
I was told I qualified for a CI. It's so wear that you don't qualify even though you have less hearing than me, crazy
I wouldn't get a CI either but only because they would have to shave a small part of your hair, like heck no, I love my hair. It would also be in the way when I have my hair styled in different styles

I've been hard of hearing my whole life, moderately to severe in one ear and severe to profound in the other, I learned to lip read as a child. I don't talk like I'm hard of hearing but I've been told I don't even sound like I am. Well if course not, I had to take speech therapy as a kid.

I get a these questions all the time since I have a hearing aid in my right ear and moderate hearing loss in my left ear but Iā€™m glad that I know someone else thatā€™s like me ā¤šŸ«¶

Do you speak American Sign Language (ASL) or any other sign language?
I have a friend with multiple handicaps. She and her mother have their own version of ASL. I have only been able to learn a few signs. I have always had a hard time learning any other language besides English.

People canā€™t seem to understand that what works for one person with a disability might not work for another with the same disability
