Definitely a battleship as it had the armor. Battlecruisers usually focus on speed and firepower not armor they are meant to destroy stuff like heavy cruisers and light cruisers and have the speed to out run larger battleships.

Wether you like it or not Bismarck has solidified it’s name in the history books as the most notorious battleship for a few reasons, one being that it actually stood toe to toe with with its counterparts. Two, knocking out HMS hood within the first few minutes of the skirmish and lastly because even with everything the British could throw at her after two hours of Bismarck getting absolutely pounded she still refused to sink.
While other battleships may have been in the same weight class they don’t hold a candle to the battleship who traded shots with other battleships.. so no the “mythology” isn’t that unfounded.

Fast battleship ..... looses in a fight to all British battleships afloat in a 1v1 fight. It was never a battleship . it's not what it was designed to do at all. 100 percent a battle cruiser

The Scharnhorst class was not intended to carry 15" guns from the start. The 15" guns were not chosen for political reasons and not because they were not ready. In fact the 11" and 15" guns got developed and put into service at the exact same time. That is why both have the C/34 in their name, it stands for year of design. That is also the reason why Gneisenau was about to get a larger bow during refit, because the ship could not carry the 15" guns in it's origianl state.
