A lot of Transformers names get shortened in Nihongo/Japanese too:
Optimus Prime = Convoy
Bumblebee = Bumble
Cliffjumper = Cliff
Windcharger = Charger
Huffer = Drag
Brawn = Gong
Sideswipe = Lambor
Red Alert = Alert
Bluestreak = Streak
Laserbeak = Condor
And I remember the Headmasters anime had a line when the Decepticons named Skullcruncher, Weirdwolf, and Mindwipe were simply called Skulu, Wulfu, and Wipu!
