What do you expect? Catchers are kneeling wayyyy too close to the plate. It’s not the batter’s fault.im surprised there aren’t more catchers injured this year

How you gonna try and blame that on the batter, I don’t even play baseball but I can see the catcher reached his arm out into the path of the bat. Aren’t they supposed to stay behind the bat and catch it if they miss or don’t swing? Not try and beat the bat to the ball.

It’s the result of a catcher trying to get the advantage when it comes to balls and strikes. The closer to the plate that the ball is caught, the more likely that a low ball might be called a strike. Contreras is like other catchers; he’s trying cheat up closer to the ball. Catcher interference calls have doubled over the last few years, because catchers are all trying to get as close as they can to the plate.

Contreras has a history of this he cheats up in the box on every batter. Every team he has played for realizes this except the Cardinals. They just throw at the next batter because they are absolutely clueless

As someone that used to play catcher and had to quit to this same exact injury in high school you can't blame Martinez it's on the catcher to protect himself in said situation.
