Great linguistic story. I imagine that is because historically Oman was more connected to India and the coastal marsh rice production than the arid wheat producing areas of north Africa or the Iranian highlands. The Arabian peninsula had little to no agriculture (other than dates) except in Yemen.
Mesopotamia lost most of its wheat production millennia ago due to salt buildup in the soil from millennia of irrigation using the highly salty or "hard" waters of the Tigris and Euphrates from the Taurus mountain range.

This is super interesting to learn. I had no idea.
In Algeria, 3aich is a soup. It's a usually spicy, tomato based broth with tiny balls of wheat pasta(?). The wheat balls are traditionally made from gathering couscous grains into balls (I'm talking 3-5mm in size) with water and then drying them in the sun.
My family lives near Algiers and in the summer, you can still find elderly women making 3aich balls the traditional way.

So cool! I love how idicative of a culture staple foods and how they're talked about can be. Ex. "Give us lord our daily bread." Think about the connotations of that for a second, how important bread was to the culture that created that prayer. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, as on earth as it is in heaven. Give us lord our daily bread. And forgive us our debets as we forgive our debetors. And do not lead us into temptation. But deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. That prayer said by millions of people every day with slight variations by different denominations for centuries the second most important thing to these people after gods kingdom on earth, their spiritual salvation, is their daily bread, their daily sustinace. I just find it so cool.
