I had a coach that banned us from from cheering people from the sidelines if we were sitting out a round of randori. At first I though that was a bit strange, but actually it really helps. Not only does the cheering put off the less confident people, it encourages everyone to just go for their winning moves instead of trying out more experimental things.

Omg I had trouble with words but you nailed it. When my technique works they give me praise like I need validation from them when I had confidence in myself. It feels patronizing.

Yup Ive noticed it but If I talk about it I feel like people will think Im crazy so I only tell friends about it (some of them having seen it) and hope they’re honest enough if Im just imagining things

Cause these things can be super subtle but powerful af

I like this idea. Also interesting about the microaggression. I've been guilty of doing that it's good to learn about the blind spots.

When I did Judo properly executed macro aggression scored an ippon in randori.
We also had to be good training partners and create a good learning environment for all skill levels.
I thought this would be humorous but you are serious. Your application is correct.
(Police use "verbal judo" to control a situation with aggressive speech. Thought you might go there.)

We have a saying here, implicit has no value, because it is about how you react to it or what you understand. Context is king but implicit stuff has no value.

There is a difference between saying "actually that was good" when someone is doubting his abilities and saying it just to be an arrogant mf.

Most judo thing in the world: dudes in the comments with nothing better to do criticizing someone for a term they think is incorrect lol.

Fascinating how the are you triggered bro bros get triggered by a term being correctly used in context.

Go train.

That's pretty hard to do, how do you manage those types of situations?

Love judo and BJJ however, micro aggression is basically liberal double speak. Asking people to be positive and uplifting is a great thing. A rising tide lifts all boats but micro managing everyone’s speech or thoughts is straight out of 1984. I believe the book was meant as a fictional warning not a “ how to manual”.

Micro aggression... good god man. It's just called being a prick. It's not aggression at all, and how you know it's not is you had to put a modifier on the descriptor and then explain why you though it was a new thing. The guy was just being an ass, get over it. Stop giving it a new name and just shut it down when it happens. You're in martial arts of some kind and don't know how to settle a technique disagreement?! It's like a bad joke from an alternate universe.

Nah. The culture of Judo has always matter-of-fact. If someone is inferring you look like sh1t....chances are you actually look like sh1t and they are telling you this to help you get better.
