Won't be long until we have pay by mile road tax.
Newer vehicles already have GPS abililty. The SOS feature was mandated for new cars, several years ago.
I reckon they will harness this feature to implement pay by mile taxation. And the government will track your every movement.
Big brother is always watching. All in the name of 'saving' the environment.
It's all about money & control.

He has also decided that from Spring 2025, drivers using the Blackwall or the upcoming Silvertown tunnels will be required to pay up to ÂŁ4, meaning a round trip in the capital would cost drivers ÂŁ8.
He's just a thief, anything to steal money from the motorist so if you're paying ÂŁ12.50 a day ULEZ charge a day and you have to use them tunnels both ways every day that's ÂŁ20.50 a day.

Iâve been saying too for a long time that the cheap running of an EV is only âleantâ to owners.
If you install an EV charger at your house youâre obliged to tell the grid. Whyâs that? After all an EV charging at 7kw is less than an electric shower.
They will either tax the electricity used for charging or impose another form of taxation on them.
One thing they can do is tax them on road miles. Every EV is now life on the internet so itâs really easy to track them. Itâs a small step to start charging for journeys. They could even adjust the prices. An EV on a country road at night would be a few pence, but one sitting in traffic at 9am in a city centre would be a lot more.
What most people donât realise is that government has departments whose job it is to try & think up new ways of bringing in more money.
I know somebody who works for HMRC & she got transferred into their unit of revenue raising a year ago.

Hasnât that always been the case. Didnât we know the congestion charge exemption was used as an a scheme to encourage EV uptake and that it would expire? You can find articles written years ago where this is stated.
Also people seem to confuse CC with ULEZ, CC has nothing to do with the emissions of the vehicle so a charge to try reduce congestion that also applies to EVs makes sense.

Also as predicted - in europe, they are building from this year - cars which are Speed Restricted via GPS, but apparently this still does not mean you will not avoid a speeding or other fines for contravening traffic regulations - its not just money - its about freedom of movement. When we approach a cashless society, the government get more tax and if you protest and disagree with how the country is run - you may have your bank account suspended - like the lorry drivers who protested in New Zealand and Canada âŚâŚ.so we are royally F@&)3d! - welcome to a Communist State
