Listen, I’m 30 and rarely drink and you have no idea how bad being a sober man shrinks the pool down.
It’s borederline depressing on how many women are literally turned off by the fact that I only drink and indulge in the devil’s lettuce at the most twice a month.

Our dopamine system is fried that we can’t even just enjoy silence without needing to pick up our phones. Most people will only get together based on those highs and that very fact will always lead to relationship failure. Even the high life gets old and boring eventually.

Sounds like she was around for a season maybe to help him learn something. He chose better for himself, he gave up a vice and as he did he repelled someone who would rather see him as he was not as he is. Doesn't sound like a loss to me even though he did lose something in his life.
She'll probably find someone else who fills that need or desire that she has for "excitement". Maybe she'll question why that made her want run away. Maybe one day she'll learn that it's unhealthy for her. Who knows.
He now has an opportunity to stay strong, he's being tested. He could easily fall back into what he did and be who he was or stay committed to his path. Then see that he has room for those who see as he is to show up now.

There are several stories of people getting sober and losing their relationships. It's more than one partner becoming "boring." It's the fact that the relationship was built on the dysfunction.
