In this comment thread, there have been hundreds of comments from the side of equity and inclusion, love and tolerance calling John Wayne everything from a Gay man hiding in the closet to a draft dodger. Where is the tolerance? Where is the inclusion? Love? Equity? Hmmmmm? Just a bunch of cancel culture and personal attacks. The man could barely walk his entire life! He had a severe injury that ended his football career. Look how he held his arm and drug his leg when he walked! Would you really want a crippled man on the front lines??? Shame on you for that!! That's not a coward!! That could not be helped! Also, when WW2 draft hit, he was borderline being too old!

Thirty something years ago I had a patient, a Mexican lady, who had been housekeeper for John Wayne for many years,in his house in Balboa, Newport Beach.
She said, "Mr. John was such a lovely man". He was kind, and generous to a fault.

When I was around eight years old. My mother took me to fashion Island in Newport Beach for some shoes while sitting in the shoe store Mr. Wayne came in with his son for shoes. He took the time to talk with me and shake my hand. I’ll never forget meeting him. He was so tall, and very kind.

John Wayne was a man among men. He was not afraid to say what he thought and did what he said. He was no Liberal.

My Grandpa was friends with John Wayne! John Wayne was a calm, collected, funny guy! He liked to party and have a good time! He treated everyone around him with respect unless you broke that respect! Say all the negative things that you will about him but he was a good person!

I was a 7 year old boy when that aired on Phil Donahue; I don't remember it but I sure remember him, "The Duke". Dad, an Army veteran, Korea took me to see "The Shootist" starring John Wayne. Mom knew better than to mention Jane Fonda around Dad. I'm 55 now and John Wayne was definitely one of my role models, as well as my Dad. I thank God; I feel sorry for boys nowadays. I remember it being a sad day when John Wayne died. At least we still had and have Clint Eastwood.

Just watching his movies sets a piece of mind with me in these messed up times. John Wayne had a way with words and spoke with such dignity and strength in words.

My grandfather loved John Wayne, and my grandfather was a man's man. He helped Build alot of highways and tunnels in my state, and was a locomotive mechanic. Took care of his family. Saved a little girls life once by prying her from a car wreck, and was well-respected by everyone. Men like my grandfather built this country, and now weak men are tearing it down.

I'm over half a century old and yes I totally admired "Duke". He spoke his mind and he stood behind his words with conviction. And in this case, he was totally right.
