As a Greek fighting with Turks over a range of dishes, I am not one to talk, but come on you guys in the comments. Sure, the chimney cake probably originates from one country - I also think it's Hungarian - but it's enjoyed by so many nations in Central Europe, so does it really matter? If Romanians are enjoying it a lot, it has also become Romanian. That's fine.

Calling this Transylvanian is a bit of a stretch, it's actually a Hungarian pastry that Romanians also enjoy quite a bit, especially in and around Transylvania where it was adopted/included into the local cuisine.
In Muntenia (Wallachia) the most popular cake is a specific type of sweet bread called "cozonac", while in Moldavia it's "papanasi", a kind of doughnut filled with soft cheese cream and covered in fruit jam.

I am Romanian, but I think the dessert originates from Hungary. Altough is very common in Romania too.
