Well applies to cars not so much semi trucks but depends on situation.. if you have time to slow down you can just let off the accelerator and move to the shoulder with 4 ways and when you get slow enough apply e-brake in totality but something like this would work if your brakes failed while trying to stop for traffic or a light.. but always runs the risk in weather. For Semi Trucks the only time our brakes fail is from overheating the metal and warping it.. to which there isnt a way to stop it other than an uphill/runaway ramp. If the brakes overheat it warps the metal contacting the brake drums and can even break them. Or if you lose the blue service line and cannot trigger brake activation in the trailer.
