Keep the bin open to air out the remaining stench

Good job. Here in the UK you can buy wheelie bin liners, so once cleaned the bin can stay clean for longer

You should leave your bin tilted over and open so it can dry out, or else itll just create a new smell and make worse whatever smell is left

I clean it after every season change. Just get an old broom that you don’t use, some hot water, soap and scrub and it will be spotless

If baking soda doesn’t work, put some charcoal briquettes in it. The charcoal is phenomenal at absorbing odors. Work great in a home too, just put them on a paper plate.

We always rinse the bin out each week after collection day. Every Tuesday. Just take the hose to it. Swish around some detergent in there and turn it upside down to dry on the pebbles.
😊

Makes life so much easier.

Pull the bins out. Water plants. Get on with morning stuff. Wash bin after collection. Someone else coming in will turn it over and roll it into place.

If I were you, next time I'd put some soap in first so it wasn't just a mist of po*p water floating at you immediately when you started rinsing.

I time my trash can cleaning with the weather. If it's going to rain after trash pickup day then I spray some bleach in the bottom and leave it open for the rain to fill it up. I have a storm drain in front of my house so after the rain I just push it over to drain. Then I let the sun dry it. Works like a charm.

I use pinesol to clean mine because flies don’t like the smell =no maggots, also Everything goes in a bag, and I line the bin with a large bag

You could put some baking soda in the bottom to get rid of the residual odor.

In Holland we have bags you can put into the trashcan, save them from getting nasty like that, we also have the biodegradable ones.

I always double bag anything i put it into all my bins to stop liquid or soft food from rottin or seepin to the bottom. If anything seeps thru, i rinse my big bin out on the pavement with soap n a broom every time the bin men empty (as i dnt have a garden} i them tun it upside dwn halfway over the kerb so it can air dry for 10 min! That way it never smells.
Double bag everything in all ur bins!
Itll save u time n ur sinuses!
Thank me later!

It is great you cleaned out that can with soapy water, but what found helps remove that lingering oder is pour a little bleach in it (2 cups) dilute with water(1 cup) & let this set over night in the can with the lid open then pour out the next day. The smell is almost completely gone.

We have a trash bin cleaning service in my area. They will coordinate with your trash pick up date and wash your trash cans. Absolutely, no run off from the water either, which is a plus. In our area its like 2 bins for $40.

The best bet is to buy big trash bags liners for the bins. That’s way the garbage is going into one big bag and not the bin

This woman is BRAVE to do that without gloves.....my germaphobic self can't even touch a trash can with gloves without having a panic attack and running screaming to the nearest sink 💀💀

My bin gets a soap scrub every two weeks. We hire a team that goes up / down the street cleaning other bins to clean/scrub it. I could do it myself however, they also take the mess away. Only cost £3 (about $3.86 or so US dollar) for each clean. Plus bonus, they bring your bin back up to the house.

Keep your bin opened and spray with a bleach cleaner it will help with the smell. 😊 also you can tape a baking soda box on the lid and make a couple small holes so overtime you close the kid you sprinkle your trash with baking soda to control odors from your trash. Hope this helps
