I live on the edge of the nasty area in SF. About 6 months ago, they started cleaning up my street. Painted, hung strand lights, intalled some planters... i was like.. AMAZING! Looks so good! I'm so glad that people still care!...
...and then a news crew rolled in that afternoon and did an interview and live broadcast.
And 1 week later, the planters were gone, and it was covered in trash once again.

I live in the Bay Area. I was there during this conference. They only cleaned up the areas that these meetings were held and where the foreign dignitaries would stay. Go four blocks over and it was the same as before.
