Learn to Thow, Isolated Movement: Arm Swing
If you didn't grow up playing a throwing sport, you know: the struggle is real! One reason throwing can be difficult to learn is it isn't just one movement - it's a combination of several complicated movements all happening together.

It can help to isolate some of those movements and work on them independently.

In this Learn to Throw series, we present 3 drills to work on isolated movements that form part of an overhand throw.

Up first: the arm swing! In our experience, this can be the hardest thing to learn. We see many dodgeball players who don't include a full arm swing in their throwing mechanics, and they are losing out on a lot of power as a result.

Learn to move your arm from straight, back, and away from the target - to bent, high and facing the target.

Start with legs shoulder width apart. Spread your arms wide, palms facing down. Begin turning your torso (hips and shoulders) and bend your elbow. Palm facing out, elbow
at/above your shoulder. Keep your elbow high as you finish turning. Straighten your arm as you swing it around and back to start.
