Air Canada 781 Go Around | MSFS

In October 2017, six times the control tower at San Francisco International Airport ordered an incoming Air Canada plane to abort its landing, fearing another plane might be on the runway, Multiple calls for "Air Canada 781 Go Around" were given and each time, the instructions went unanswered. Finally, the air traffic controllers took out the emergency red light and aimed it outside their window towards the jet to try to get the pilots' attention. That didn't work either. The plane landed and one of the pilots the radioed that he was having problems with the radio.

(Disclaimer: This is just an estimated recreation of the event, it might not be accurately synchronized in terms of time, aircraft position and other variables and in DOES NOT provide the exact happenings of incident due to the limitations of Microsoft Flight Simulator)

This is why we have ATC to help when mistakes are made. ATC doesn’t have down time at busy airports. Let’s all applaud his help on avoiding a disaster nobody could have wanted.

Wow! Props to this ATC guy. What calm. Although you know he was fighting emotions from anger to mystification to fear not knowing why Air Canada wasn't responding.

I am a private pilot. Even if you go NORDO (no radio) YOU HAVE A VISUAL!!!! That was your first landing before getting your instrument rating!!!!

I was on a plane into London Heathrow that was coming in to land when the pilot pushed the nose up and went full throttle into the sky before looping around. He then apologised and explained that the flight in front hadn't cleared the runway. We landed without further incident. Frightening at the time, we wondered if the landing gear was defective.

I don't believe it was a mistake or loss of radio. He just didn't want to go round. He had to see the other planes on the Runway.

No way this crew lost all radio comms at the most inopportune time, only to have it come back again conveniently after landing. Bunch of tools.

We didn't get to hear ATC give Air Canada 781 the "you're being sent to the Principal's office" telephone number.

Even when using IFR , VFR should take precedence on landings.
