பொங்கல் என்பது தமிழ் மாதமான தையில் (ஜனவரி-பிப்ரவரி) கொண்டாடப்படும் ஒரு பாரம்பரிய தென்னிந்திய அறுவடை திருவிழா ஆகும். இந்த திருவிழா குளிர்கால சங்கிராந்தியின் முடிவையும் அறுவடை பருவத்தின் தொடக்கத்தையும் குறிக்கிறது. தை பொங்கல் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படும் பொங்கல், கலாச்சார மற்றும் மத முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த நான்கு நாள் கொண்டாட்டமாகும்.

முக்கிய நிகழ்வானது, புதிதாக அறுவடை செய்யப்பட்ட அரிசியை பால் மற்றும் வெல்லத்துடன் ஒரு களிமண் பானையில் அது நிரம்பி வழியும் வரை வேகவைப்பதை உள்ளடக்கியது, இது செழிப்பை குறிக்கிறது. முதல் நாளான போகி பொங்கல், பழைய பொருட்களை சுத்தப்படுத்துவதற்கும் அப்புறப்படுத்துவதற்கும் அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தை பொங்கல், இரண்டாவது நாள், பொங்கல் உணவு சடங்குகள் நடைபெறும் முக்கிய பண்டிகை நாள். மாட்டுப் பொங்கல், மூன்றாம் நாள், கால்நடைகளுக்கு மரியாதை, விவசாய வாழ்க்கையில் இன்றியமையாதது. இறுதி நாளான காணும் பொங்கல், குடும்ப உல்லாசப் பயணங்கள் மற்றும் சுற்றிப் பார்ப்பதை உள்ளடக்கியது.
