I"ve been told I have an "ANZAC" accent. Little bit hoarse at moment but tried to show some of the main differences.

To the untrained ear, the Australian (Aussie) & New Zealander (Kiwi) sound the same.

I am kiwi born & raised & lived 8 years of my adult life in Australia.

The main difference is the vowels. Aussies have longer vowels with more of an "ee" sound. Kiwis have shorter vowels with more of a "u" sound, especially for the letter "i".

For "fish" and chips", an Aussie sounds like "feesh and cheeps" to a kiwi. Whereas a kiwi might sound like "fush and chups" to an Aussie.

An Aussie saying the number "six" sounds like they are saying "sex" (although the claim is it's the other way around).

Aussies say words like "plant" and "dance" closer to American accents. Kiwis say these words closer to English accents.

Aussies with more "bogan" dialects can also sound very nasal.
