The Sand Creek Massacre is one of the darkest chapters in American history. On November 29, 1864, a peaceful Cheyenne and Arapaho camp, flying both the American flag and a white flag of peace, was brutally attacked by 675 Colorado militia. Over 150 people, including women, children, and the elderly, were killed and mutilated in a horrific betrayal of trust. Amid the violence, Captain Silas Soule stood out as a beacon of courage, refusing to participate and later exposing the atrocities to the world. This tragic event reminds us of the devastating consequences of broken promises and the importance of remembering the lives lost at Sand Creek.
