As a songwriter and a loud singer by choice I changed from dreadnaught to a Guild F50 jumbo in 1982. On a jumbo I was encouraged to sing louder with the benefit of having a deeper lower end resonance supporting my Alto voice. With it I could always hear my jumbo while singing which finally ended my dreadnaught as my singer/songwriting vehicle. Without singing included a dreadnaught is possible to be that tool for writing music unplugged. Personally, when I’m not singing I’m more likely to gravitate towards a parlor guitar.

I have a 25+ y/o SJ200 (Spruce on Curly Maple), and my son has a 2015 J35 (Spruce on Hog). They sound IDENTICAL. Only perceptible difference being my 200 has a bit more dynamic range from a whisper to a roar. Otherwise...an almost imperceptible difference in tone and timbre. Moral - play the damned guitar before you drop the money for it...each one is different.
