This door slams into the building when it’s windy.
Let me show you what I used to fix it.
An impact driver, a wrench, a rubber boot, a door closer, a Darth Vader mask, a blender, and finally a center punch.
The first thing I did was layout where everything goes using a template.
I used my center punch to mark the spot for each screw hole.
Once I was done with the template, I just threw it right in the blender.
Next, I mounted the PA plate to the top of the door jamb with the screws from the kit.
Then I attached the closer to the door- making sure to line it up with the marks from the template.
Now I can install this arm assembly that attaches the closer to the door jamb.
I turned the spindle on the bottom of the closer 45 degrees before I attached the forearm- this puts tension on it.
The forearm should be adjusted so that the elbow is an inch and a half from the door.
Finally, I screwed in the bolt that holds the main arm to the spindle.
We get some crazy winds in our area; I actually had a couple doors break last winter. Hopefully this closer will take care of the problem. ‪@hausplans‬

Remember to properly adjust the hydraulics so the door doesn't slam needlessly

I'm impressed. I've worked in door hardware for 25 years. Most people overlook the blender.

I love that thanks to Technology Connections I have knowledge of what those two hex screws on the side does, but I will likely never need this knowledge ever.
Not that I'm complaining, I love learning this kinda stuff.

Impressive, thanks to you, I now understand the importance of a single rubber boot on an install job like this. 🙏

So, so many installers forget or forgo preloading the mechanism, it's good to hear you mention it explicitly.
