Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not 🤔 but I think it’s easy to scroll through social media and only see the highlight reel — making it look like every horse and rider combination is flawless in training and competition.

The reality? It can be pretty messy sometimes 🙈 That’s just the real world of riding horses. What truly matters is the partnership and teamwork you build together — that’s what creates the “perfect” combination.

I learnt the hard way not to over-shelter my horses when it comes to striding and fences. Yes, I make sure they’re prepared for the job, but I also give them responsibility. This empowers them to trust their footwork, find their fifth leg when things don’t go quite to plan, and gives us both confidence.

So in those moments, all I focus on is keeping my balance, slipping my reins if needed, and keeping my leg on in a supportive way

Your training works Evie - if it's not broken, don't fix it. I see it as giving the horse confidence to understand what's being asked, for them to put that learning into practice & for them to know how to get out of any mistakes, safely. ❤
