Something similar to this should be a feature... but YouTube doesn't care about the creators making money, or building their communities anymore. They only care about keeping people completely zoned in. A long-form video will be more likely to be the end of someone's YouTube session, so they'd rather keep people in the dopamine loop.

Enrico: No, this isn't the biggest problem..There are many, many reasons to loathe shorts: the lack of captions(at least you built them into this one; most do not); the inability to double-click the left twice to move back 10 seconds to re-listen or re-watch the last bit; can't play easily select to play at 75% or 50% speed; and other attack-on-user-control-and-autonomy aspects one could add to this list. It's a horrible and disrespectful -of-users format.
Want to fix shorts? (i)Eliminate them, or at least (ii)Have youtube have a 1-click way to convert back to regular format or else, if "you": isn't YT, then: (iii)Create a Browser Add On that does what I do by hand in the URL bar in the rare occasions I click them: replace "/shorts/STRING" with "/watch?v=STRING.
The scroll-zombie format lovers will disagree; okay, fine; again, at least let those of us who strongly dislike it, switch with 1-click to normal format
YT should do at least (ii) but most likely won't. With (iii) you, Enrico, can change the world instead of begging youtube to do it; create an add-on that does (iii).
Another Add-on I want: Turn all my Playlists into a compressed text file I can download, and upload on a host I have as html so I own my own playlists instead of youtube being able to kill it if they kill my account, have a hack, have a catastrophic failure, etc.(Also it would let me at least remember the channel owner (by saving that too) of a video in case a year later I return to a playlist and get "this video can't be seen since it's private")
You're a smart fellow which is why I gave a rare subscribe after seeing your ChatGPT video. Why give Paypal control? Accept crypto (You can hold most or all in stablecoin or even instantly convert to fiat if you're not comfortable holding even a small percent in promising ones like ETH)
We should resist quasi-monopolistic (certainly centralized and oligopolistic, as here and elsewhere) situations. You're a coder, at least somewhat, so you can act, build and share on your channel what you've built. Don't wait years for when everyone has their own ChatGPT type (or more powerful, most likely) AI that does the coding for them. You can change the world with your channel, which is still 10x and 100x the size many have with your 4k+ viewers, your tech knowledge, and your ability to create by coding. Regards from an old timer from the late 80s and early 90s usenet days.

What I think would help is letting you quickly save the full length video for "watch later". This combined with a feed that regularly shows saved "watch later" videos can make it so you can keep doom scrolling shorts when you're on your phone and quickly find something to watch when you open YouTube on your PC or TV.

The problem is Shorts is an active attempt to move away from the kind of platform where the user gets to find the content they want, and more of a TikTok ethos of trying to waste as much of your time on the platform as possible with what is sometimes essentially white noise.
I'm not sure why people are so drawn to the huge numbers Shorts or Reels get when most of those viewers won't even recognize or remember the channel later.
It's the SEO issue all over again like how it ruined Google search lol
