I look at it like its all music. If it fits the vibe of my set- I play it. I don't even read the genre. The angry DJ shouldn't focus on genres- they should focus on DJs. Learn the DJs and their sound and go see the DJ you like, why even bother thinking about the genres? To me, the whole "genre" thing is a "bro" thing. The only times I get genre questions- its always some sweaty dude with a pack of other guys, never a female... The same type of dude that asks you to play some obscure B side that only they want to hear then flames you as not real because you won't play it.... Who lets these people in the club?

I’m trying to learn more about EDM to not make that mistake !!! So I put no tittle or genders in my jams - live sets - 😅 but I’m a musician who is falling in love everyday more with Electronic Music and I always find DJ’s more fun than Musicians in a party/club🎉 So knowing about music 🎶 is knowing how to entretain for me. DJ’s showed me the music I love ❤️ Respect always

I can get what he means especially with the resurgence of 90s trance/techno alongside tech house. It seems a lot of venues are simply advertising their events as tech and the acts simply interpret it how they want. Some play this 140 DnB wannabe techno stuff, others play melodic trance, others will play tech house edits but speed them up to techno speeds. "Techno" may be trending but its not what most people probably actually know as techno. It's not just with tech though, the same thing happened for a while in trap. Everything had trap elements and as such got labelled the same even if its not close at all, down to tons of dubstep events being relabeled as trap. Whatever is the trending genre will always be the one people seem to take the most liberties with putting in a box because everyone wants to be trendy, no one wants their music to be "oh not THAT kind of it"

Totally agree. It's frustrating.. Most people think techno music is simply anything with a 4 on the floor beat. I have to admit that I used to have my genres a bit confused for a long time.. I used to think I was a huge trance fan, and to be honest, I really like the genre. However, it turns out I am more into progressive house and melodic techno.

Totally agree. Most people are bad at their job. Chefs, house cleaners, software engineers … DJs. It is incredibly hard to identify some music. And, most record pools don’t even do a very good job of categorizing music. I feel like if music is your full time job, you should know this sort of thing. Spend a few hours. Do some research. Be a professional.
