I've been called to jury duty many times in my life and I've heard many excuses during the vior dire process from people trying to get excused. The judge always grills them with questions and usually ends up keeping them. The last time, there was an older woman who told the judge she was phychic and already knew the outcome of the trial. He excused her without a single question.

I got called for jury duty once so far in my life, went, had an informative time, and ultimately didn’t have to serve cause I got an exemption due to my third shift work schedule. Did decide that one day I would like to serve on a jury but would definitely have to wait for me to have a more standard work schedule to accomplish.

I was recently notified that I'm in next year's jury pool in my state, and I actually kinda look forward to it. especially since I've seen too many times in the news about how a jury blindly followed the prosecutor and police's word and falsely find someone guilty on flimsy evidence and/or straight up lies

I’ve been called for jury duty twice. Once in high school, once in college. It has been 10 years since the last time. I wonder if it helps that we have moved every 2-3 years. I had one job where we would get extra PTO if we had to do jury duty. That’s when I wouldn’t have minded. Anywhere else where I’m burning PTO I was going to use for vacation and getting paid pennies to listen to lawyers argue, I will unashamedly do anything I can to get out of it.

The thing about "Just go to jury duty" is it isn't something a lot of people can afford. Literally.
In my area the compensation is so low, and the extra transportation cost isn't covered. Luckily there's the ability to be excused because of financial hardship, but that's still a day of work lost going to jury selection and declaring that.
I'm hoping maybe there's some way to get excused ahead of time without having to lose a day that I just don't know about, but as far as I know only students and people who have been declared disabled by the government can get it dismissed without attending selection.

Some year's ago, I was called to jury duty, at the time I was employed by the county government. So i reported and sat in the pool, they called out names the sent to a court room, the judge asked if any one had any issues about being on jury, a very old senior got up and stated that he didn't want to be in any part of it, said it was corrupt system, that he didn't want to be a part of. The judge instructed the older man to return to the jury pool, seek out the jury commissioner, and inform the commissioner of how he stated his complaints that he had stated to the judge. With that stated to the commissioner, he was permanently removed from having or being called for jury duty any more.

Where I live, jury selection is based on voter registration. Where I live now I’m registered and have voted for ten years. I had received a jury duty summons that was mailed to my old home, that’s in a different county, at an address I lived at over ten years ago. Fortunately I know the people that live in my old home so they gave me the summons. Otherwise I would’ve never known. When I called they said I still had to inform them, even though I didn’t live in that county. The system is broken.

I was given jury duty in 2022 while I was working Nights at a data center 7pm-7am. Jury duty was from 8am-4pm.
My company threatened to fire me for not showing up to work.. Despite me handing them the court order that I need to be available for jury.
In the end I won that argument against the companies lawyers, but the sheer fact some companies literally don't care if you end up in jail is absolutely insane to me.

I’m old enough to remember when my state used voter registration records for jury duty. Then there was a concern no one was registering to vote to avoid jury duty, so they started using driver’s license data. That pissed a lot of people off. But it made sense because if you could make it to vote, you can make it to jury duty, and now, if you can drive, you can make it to jury duty.
