can confirm, even to this day the handhelds in that form factor, mainly the gba, psp, vita, and emulator consoles like the retroid 3+, just feel better to hold.
While handhelds with more boxy designs and very thin profiles like the gb color, gba sp and even the switch feels like i have to cramp my hands in order to hold onto them or at the very least need to hold them with just a couple of fingers which can feel taxing after a while, especially with the switch.

It's worth pointing out that the original Game Boy Advance SP did not have a backlight. The backlight was only introduced in the AGS-101, late in the life cycle of the GBA and was only available in some regions.
It's more accurate to say that the GBA SP had a frontlit display, since that's what most models were shipped with.

I was so sad that Nintendo never gave the normal GBA a backlit screen, it was th coolest form imo
