For those that don't know: key pin heights have set values, corresponding to a number, like it shows on the screen. Your key is basically a password, this would help you get the password (called the bitting), you could then send this number to a locksmith and have them originate a key with that bitting (originating a key is a different process from copying a key, copying a key uses the original key as a guide but originating machines need the bitting pattern of the desired key)

Most low sec keys like the one in the video have the code written on the bow of the key, this would allow you to simply copy the key without this device if you have a key punch, milling machine, or even a basic file can get the job done. When I worked as a locksmith apprentice my boss had me file a key blank based on another key as a training exercise and the key worked quite well. It really isn't that difficult and Im sure most people could figure it out, the difficulty lies within creating a key for an existing lock that you dont already have access to. That typically requires taking the lock apart and deciphering the key code based on the pin heights.
