Sundown Towns? What are they? Well, Sundown towns are historically all-white towns that enforced racial segregation and excluded African Americans after sundown. After sunset, black folks weren’t welcome in these towns, and if you were caught, the consequences could be dire. In fact, the name “Sundown Town” came from signs posted at the entrance of these towns warning people of color that they weren’t welcome after dark. Here are some examples of those signs. Though Sundown towns are not as prevalent as they were in the past, they still exist in the US...unfortunately. They still exist. In this video, I will only focus on 3 regions: Texas, the Midwest, and the Mid-Atlantic. I will include some stories from Truck Drivers and others who have experience.

My first experience with sundown towns was in the military in the 80's in Georgia. Im from the north and didnt know anything about this til i got pulled over by a deputy and i assure you they are real and i never went back again...😔🙏...racism is real.

I'm from Chicago. When I was younger we would travel to Alabama, my parents home. We would pack fried chicken to eat. Not just because it was more economically feasible to do so, but also so that we wouldn't have to stop in perhaps a "sundown" town in order to eat.

Fun fact: the majority of America's sundown towns reside in the Midwest. Yes, even Minnesota has a shit ton of sundown towns, so if you're black and decide to go in that part of the country, keep an eye open or bring some white friends and just keep a low profile. Not even Milwaukee and Detroit will save you unfortunately.

I learned of the Emmett Till case from this show after out of curiosity on whether it was real or not I did some research after watching the episode and was shocked. I hated that this show got canceled, as I loved how it showed a lot of the hardships black people faced back then plus, it had great horror and fantasy stuff.
