we had manual transmission in over 90% of cars in europe until the mid 2000s

Well, there is starting to have a crescent demand on manual sports cars, so if companies are smart enough I think the manual can coexist with the automatic. It won't compete with the automatic for sure, but still we'll have manual cars in future, especially considering that the EU allowed the use of e-fuels on old and future ICEs, and with brands like Toyota, Kawasaki, Cummins and others investing on HICEVs, I think that manual can still exist, but in a more niche way.
