Boar's tusk helmets were developed by Minoans and feature in their artwork. These were made by sewing boar tusk plates - made by cutting flat sections from boar tusks – onto a leather backing. They were effective as armour and perhaps had symbolic purposes too, calling on the strength and ferocity of the wild boar itself and that dangerous aristocratic pursuit, the boar hunt.
Minoan warriors also employed large body shields – rectangular or figure eight shaped - from at least 1800 BC or so right through to around 1200 BC. These were made from a wicker frame and tough rawhide, perhaps also holding symbolic value, considering the popularity of bull imagery in Minoan art – and the pastime of bull leaping.

I saw something similar to this in the museum at Dendra, near Mycenae. It was a half intact helmet and full set of bronze armour that had been buried under debris when vaulted tombs were being looted early in the 20th century. The thieves had missed the most valuable artifact in the tombs!

For all we know about the minoans, it's infuriating to me what we dont know. I guess until we get a Minoan Rosetta stone it'll still be a mystery.

With so many boar tusks, it appears wild pork was main source of protein for warrior class. And boar was prime agricultural pest. When domesticated sheeps and goats appeared on island?

The boar tusk helmet was mentioned in the Iliad, but never found until late 1800s.

The boar was Ares's symbolic animal. (Later Mars in Rome) Attributed the immortality and the bravery that doesn't know fear.

The first boar in modern times was taken in 2004 , it weighed 160 kg,and was Silver medal on its tusk .,

Russian boars can ne up to 350 kg ,and are exported to Argentina also

Smallest boar and not mixed much with tame breeds are the Berber boars in Tunisia and Algeria

They are most similar to the ancient species of back then in Northern africa.

I think you’re confusing the Mycenaeans with the Minoans.
