Why Accesscode Loses its ATK, but Giga-Brilliant Doesn't - Advanced Rulings

Cards with effects that grant themselves lingering effects can have those effects negated if they themselves are negated. So for example, you bring out Accesscode Talker with a link 3 monster so it permanently gains 3000 atk, this atk gain lasts basically forever. However if its impermed(Infinite Impermanence), its atk gain will be lost, and it will not come back during the endphase when its effect is no longer being negated. However, if a monster gives a permanent attack boost that affects more cards than just itself, it will not be negated if it's negated. Say for example giga-brilliant(Number 20: Giga-Brilliant) uses its effect to permanently give all monsters you control 300 extra attack, and its the only monster on your side of the field. If its targeted by imperm, it will NOT lose its attack buff at all. So while Accesscode can have its buff removed forever by any negate, giga-brilliant is basically immune to all of that, and only loses its atk buff if it leaves the field or gets flipped face down, despite them both basically having the same kind of effect.

Card Rulings are like 60% lawyering, 30% angle shooting, and 10% sounding confident

Think of it like this: Accesscode is affecting itself, Giga Brilliant is affecting the player's field.

If we get an official in-depth rule book one day, it's gonna be as thick as a dictionary, with 5% being the actual rules and 95% of it being filled with little quirks like this.

They obviously make these rules up as they go.

And here we thought the Duelist Kingdom attitude of “if you explain it confidently enough” was lost.

Remember everyone: It's always morally correct to negate the Accesscode Talker, he's a punk and deserves less

Would love so much to see Giga-Brilliant actually beatdown an Accesscode because of this.

Yugioh needs to codify its rulings, like Wizards does with magic.

That would such an anime moment where the main character uses his double booster giga-brilliant to destroy the enemies negated access code talker

Hey Duel Logs! Quick question I can’t seem to find an answer for:

Nightmare Pain: how tf does it work? Like, on the simulators for some godforsaken reason, if I control 2 Yubel monsters, I get to choose which one is the target. But OCG rulings have said the attacker chooses.

While on the subject, why can Spirit of Yubel use its on-summon effect through Eternal Favorite, even though it says neither player may activate effects when this monster is summoned?

I think of it like the lingering effect continues indefinitely after resolution. Like how if you try to called by a Maxx C after it’s already resolved, future activations of Maxx C in that turn will be negated, but the already resolved effect will linger until the end of the turn.
