A mystery box showed up in an Oregon driveway… and it was moving.

Inside were two bobcat kittens. Their fate could have been tragic. But while they're unreleasable to the wild, they're living the good life at The Living Desert, where they have care, safety and enrichment for life.

Im guessing a hunter killed their mom..but found the kittens. They knew thered be questions if they went to a sanctuary...so left them and hoped for the best.

I'm so thankful they took them to a qualified wildlife sanctuary instead of keeping them themselves, like some people seem to do. Wild animals are not pets no matter how "cute" they seem!

This happened to my neighbor. Some one left an elderly chicken in a box at her front door. She had a chicken coop in the backyard. She had no idea where it came from. That chicken live a long and healthy life. It was her favorite.

I am glad the person who got the kittens didn't try to keep them. They're happier at the Living Desert than they would be as someone's pets.

I work in a coffee shop in a city centre. And there are multiple food shops in the area. The other day, 2 staff from a new restaurant next door found an injured pigeon, so they came in and asked us if we had a box we could put him in to keep him safe. None of the shops nearby could bring a pigeon inside, due to the health and safety issues. The rest of our day was spent checking on this poor pigeon, making sure no one hurt him. Several people call different animals rescue place but none can come into the city (because they are all charities and have limited funds, they can't upgrade the vehicles they use for animal rescue. And the city has a low emission zone, meaning any cars that aren't up to standard will be fined for even entering the city. So they can't afford to do rescues in the city.)
So I decided that if it was still hanging on when I finished my shift, I'd take it home with me in a smaller box, on the train. Then my mum drove me and the pigeon to the local wildlife rescue centre.
He was thin as anything (his beak was deformed so he couldn't eat once his parents stopped feeding him), and then had been hit by a vehicle. So was concussed and was blind in both eyes.
They said his vision could come back, and they are going to put him on concussion protocol, also trim his beak, get him fed and see if his vision bounces back. They weren't super optimistic, but they weren't saying there was no chance. I might call tomorrow and see how he's doing.
But what I loved was that staff from 3 neighbouring stores, who didn't know each other, all took time out of their day to keep an eye on this little city pigeon, keep him safe and make sure he got help. It was just so wonderful!

Jen, thank you for turning this into a positive story. Those kittens are better often than being in the wild, they will never know hunger or people shooting at them.❤

They were so young when they were found, they will not realize that they are going to miss out on the life nature meant for them, so they won't miss it.💙

The Living Desert museum is a great outdoor museum. I really enjoy visiting it when in the Palm Springs/ Palm Desert area. What a beautiful story about the bobcat kittens.
