REST OF THE STORY:
Michael was yelling about how inconsiderate we were not to show up, how we’re heartless monsters, and that Michael no longer considers my husband his son.
My husband tried to explain that we already said we couldn’t make it, so he didn’t understand why his dad was upset.
This arguing kept going on until I stepped in and said as monotone as possible “look, we’re sorry your mother died. We get you’re upset.
But frankly we just don’t care. She ignored our existence, and referred to others as her grandchildren.” Then I hung up.
My MIL was there and told me, while how I feel is completely valid, I absolutely shouldn’t have said that to anyone who is hurting, let alone my FIL.
My husband told her that I just said what we were all thinking.
