The most exciting thrift/op store find I ever found in that respect was a genuine-silk wedding sari length!! β€οΈ Red with gorgeous gold embroidery. I still haven't been confident enough in my tailoring skills to cut it yet π
but it is a treasure of my fabric stash.
Modern sari shops have some lovely muslin-weight cottons too, definitely worth checking out IMO if you are trying to avoid synthetics in your projects and your local fabric shows are super-expensive? Those lengths have beautiful built-in edging and end-panel patterns too

All my Edwardian dresses are made from thrifted sheets. A king size sheet is enough fabric to make a complete Edwardian dress and it costs about 8 bucks. I usually spend more on thread and trim and closures than on my fabric. Also bedskirts and sheets are definitely the best to make petticoats.

Always check the bedding section. I have a nice stash of white sheets I can use for mock ups, lining, or dyeing projects. Have even gotten lucky with finds like Egyptian cotton and silk cotton blends for very cheap!
