what’s the difference between this and a plate compactor? i know they obviously function differently, but can you use a plate compactor instead of this?

Extra 100 bucks for that option no one will ever need.

I see a huge problem with all of this lithium powered equipment. You can't Sue the company's. So therefore, they are not being innovative. And by innovative, I mean, making equipment that does not catch fire. I will buy battery operated. When I can hold the manufacturers accountable for a battery fire I am not buying a bunch of equipment that could catch fire 'cause as of right now. I have neighbors with stuff like this and when they have a fire, I will soothe them for keeping volatile batteries on their property that led to damage on my property. Sam.
E with all you Tesla drivers, you can't Sue. Tesla for a battery fire. But your neighbor can Sue you for your car fire damaging their property.
