Here’s an alternative method for achieving the perfect vocal balance.

I found this tip in the comments on one of my reels.

I gave it a shot, and it worked really well for balancing vocals…

Pan the entire track to one side,

And the vocals to the other.

Adjust the vocal level until it sounds right.

Then flip the pan to check the level once more.

After that, center both the track and vocals, and

you’ll have a perfectly balanced mix.

another great trick i’ve learned, is turn the master fader down to a point where you can barely hear the track, then you’ll find it is a lot easier to balance the vocals in the mix because otherwise you won’t hear the vocals/instruments at all. learned this one from a mastering engineer during my time at university!

Exactly! I have stem auxes which I tweak for overall volume shaping. Vocals (with a lead and bg sub buss) and 2 Track (with a bass, drums, melodies, and All FX subs)

Very good! In a practical application, one could keep a mixdown of the full track in the mix and then solo it with each vocal (I'm thinking in the context of applying your technique to mixing harmonies. I suspect you could pan thr main vox to one side and then balance the background vocals on the other side without straining the CPU).
