Canadian artist Ray Caesar and I collaborated on a book in 2008, thanks to a kind introduction of the project by Jonathan LeVine.
Ray worked on many memorable pieces for this book, and we developed this book together over eighteen months. The Ray Caesar Art Collection sold out within one year. It featured many unique packaging elements, including a clamshell box with signed limited edition, prayer cards, certificates of authenticity, and special printing techniques.
Many emotions were pulling this collection together, and surprisingly, this edition narrowly happened. Thankfully, Ray saw the project through and was generous in visiting me in San Diego with his wife to sign all the limited editions. Ray and I have exchanged many moments of creative exchanges over the years through exhibitions, interviews, and virtual celebrations of his illuminated creations steeped in profound, emotional circumstances.
Ray Caesar shared, “I remember these voices being tiny moving points of light. In a simple answer to your question, I have come to love all times of day and all states of mind, as they all have a reason and emotion. I am often happy sitting on my terrace when it’s cold, foggy, and raining. I wrap myself in a blanket, sip tea, watch the fog, and listen to the rain; the light is just fantastic.”
Ray Caesar’s first art collection was an assemblage of 250 images printed over 178 pages. This sold-out hardcover edition was a labor of love over 15 months and features a fantastic collection of Ray’s drawings, render studies, process sketches, and masterworks. Ray worked hard on creating text that introduced his story, introducing you to how he began his artistic journey, and his visuals provide a visual codex to where he might be headed next.
