The great auk, the original penguin, was hunted to extinction for its feathers to stuff pillows, and rich collectors wanted rare specimens.
The southern hemisphere penguins, which you all know as penguins, were actually named after the great auk, which European explorers called penguins, tho the similarities are due to convergent evolution.
Now, due to the extinction of the great auk, the original penguin, there are no penguins in the Arctic.
