The difference between the enemy "grabbing a heavier caliber to finish the job" is the more heavily armed it is the more the vehicle can defend itself. Right now a singular machine gun could devastate it, a machine gun is more common than you think.

not every single vehicle has to be heavily armored. Especially if your task is to get guys in and out somewhere quickly. It takes time to drop a ramp, where in this case, just jump out and go! We are not the only country that uses this type of transport either. Every vehicle is suited for a different purpose.

People seem to misunderstand the point of the vehicle. Its to move troops into places where they would normally have to walk. And when you're walking you're not protected from shrapnel or small calibres either. This vehicle is meant to increase mobility, but has no negative impact on the actual protection of troops.

Light infantry needs a carrier that can transport them and their weapons quickly on any ground, thgough water and protect them from mines and ambush fire.... thats not the proper vehicle...and by the way... drones nowdays are really a weapon that feeds in such vehicle targets...
