Canada is taking steps to reduce fraud in its Express Entry immigration system. The government announced a new measure to prevent the illegal buying and selling of job offers for immigration purposes. Starting in spring 2025, candidates in the Express Entry pool will no longer receive additional points for having a job offer. This temporary change aims to remove the incentive for fraudulent activities, such as purchasing Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs), which are used to enhance a candidate’s chances of being selected for permanent residency.

The change will affect both new candidates and those already in the pool, but not individuals who have already been invited to apply or whose applications are in progress. This adjustment is part of Canada’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the integrity of its immigration system while ensuring it attracts the skilled workers needed to support economic growth.

Minister of Immigration, Marc Miller, emphasized that the move is crucial for maintaining a fair and effective immigration system, while continuing to welcome the world’s best talent to Canada.
