I had an idea a while back about a way to automatically stabilize such a structure. If, instead of anchor points for the fibers, you used pulleys on the bottom, such that the three outer fibers met in the middle, and you wove them together to form the middle fiber, you could use what was essentially a winch, at a single point, to adjust tension as needed. It would exploit the tensile strength in the same way, but balance loads. Alternatively, you could establish the same set-up, but instead of weaving the the strands together, you could use a winch for each, and counteract imbalance of the platform *actively*. If the weight was off-set, you could theoretically ease tension on one corner or increase it in another, to keep the platform level, but without compromising stability/levelness of the platform. If I had the means and expertise, I'd build a model to test my theory. Maybe someday.

tensegrity is one of the most fascinating things i swear. this is the kind of thing that makes me wanna learn physics, but my little monkey brain only goes "oooh ahh!"
