Great news - there's more great white sharks near Cape Cod than ever! I know, that doesn't sound awesome if you're a swimmer, but it's an awesome sign for the marine ecosystems.

Yessss! We hear a lot of awful news about nature most of the time, especially now. As a former shark kid who was infuriated by poaching and population loss when I read about it as a child, I see this as an absolute win. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Alas, the gray seal. One of many animals who's only crime was being delicious. Not just to people, but to a lot of things. I'm glad they, and the things that like to eat them, are doing better, though! Hopefully that also means the things THEY like to eat are being more reasonably managed.

Sharks don't really bother humans much. Drone footage shows they are quite near surfers pretty often but don't care.

Our fears are usually exaggerated, so good news!

that’s awesome. as a young kid sharks were my THING! it was always so cool learning about them but so sad knowing that their populations were greatly declining. this would have made 5 year old me so happy, and makes 25 year old me a bit more optimistic about saving our blue world❤

As someone from the cape, this is terrifying and true, I’ve had great whites come up to my whaler and it’s one of the scariest things

Wonder how long before the Orcas show up to dine on shark liver, fava beans, and Chianti. 😂😂

If only everyone saw that altering human behavior can have positive, large scale effects.

I live on the island off the coast of cape code! The same place where jaws was filmed and it pretty famous. But I absolutely love sharks! And I’m studying to be a marine biologist

I don't really understand how that graph shows that shark's numbers have been rising for 4 years.

At best it shows that shark's numbers have been rising for 3 years, but technically if we start from 2016, add 1 year=2017, add 1 year=2018; that's only 2 years that have shark's numbers rising.

Encouraging news, now I’d like to hear more positive news about other endangered species like tigers and axolotl

It seems people don't know the difference between totally extinct and regionally extinct. The grey seals were regionally extinct in Cape cod - they were wiped out in the region. They weren't totally extinct like sauropods or dodos.
