At least on the boxer the side loading forces on the piston are lessened because it can't pivot as easily at the crank.

that piston is called the "Flat Four" you see on the video. it doesnt match on the actual flat four

The strength of the middle of the bottom and around the sides is too little, furthermore this piston will still induce axial rocking. Due to un-centeredness when in combustion phase and especially when engine braking. Also there is no good way to introduce a positive piston to crank geometry as in traditional fixed rod engines. I’m not hating on the design, if it helps someone come up with something better, I’m all for it. Just pointing out seemingly obvious flaws that the lay person may not take into consideration when analyzing this concept. Side note, the syntech engine is not designed like this rendering
