During the Vietnam War (1955–1975), the United States lost over 58,000 soldiers. But one of the most haunting legacies isn’t just the dead — it’s the *missing.

At the end of the war, more than 2,500 Americans were officially listed as MIA — Missing in Action. Some were pilots shot down, others lost in battle, and many presumed captured.

Decades later, joint recovery missions between the U.S. and Vietnam have identified and returned many remains. But still, more than 1,500 American soldiers remain unaccounted for.

The black-and-white POW/MIA flag still flies today as a reminder of those who never came home.
