For our modern eyes the Russian invasion of Ukraine was shocking but in the past such invasions were regular occurrences. The past is interesting to learn about but really must have been awful if you lived anywhere near a border or, as with Rome, there were many destabilizing civil wars.

Would love to see the "arena" she says in ancient greece. Unless she is referring to the olympics that they were arenas but not in the context she implies. I don't think the ancient world was brutal, just the Romans and (to some extent) Greeks. Rest of the world had wars to lesser extent than even modern times.
