Giulia Tess has been Clasico family tree since before the label started, even playing back-to-back with label boss ELEANOR at Local Action’s 10th birthday takeover of Corsica Studios. Sometimes the seeds of a record are email attachments - with this one it’s years’ worth of dinners, afters and smoking area heart-to-hearts. Giulia’s music feels poised between a few different styles and worlds, but mostly it’s that balance between the rough broken rhythms of the UK’s soundsystem legacy and the elegant melodies of European house and techno. Call it Serie A with a loan spell at Peak Barclays. Or if you want to get really reductive, gunfingers with one hand, 🤌 with the other. And so it goes on this EP: four Giulia Tess club cuts full of earworms, emotional heft and some serious range.
