345 videos • 1,267 views • by Mike Johnson Black Yodel No.1 Mike Johnson joined the NTCMA in 1994. He attended and performed at the week-long festival from 1999 to 2002 when it was in Avoca, Iowa. Then in 2003 in Missouri Valley, Iowa, and in 2009 & 2010 in LeMars, Iowa, after recovering from a 2003 neck injury that ended his 20-year trucking career. In 2016 he made the trek with his label-mate James Adelsberger, who had also attended the 2015 festival, and made a final appearance at the 2017 festival. Mike was inducted into America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame at the 27th NTCMA Festival in September 2002 in Avoca, Iowa. James received a Pure Country CD of the Year Award in 2015. In 2016 James received an Instrumental CD of the Year Award and Mike a Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2017 he received a Legendary Honky Tonk CD of the Year award at his final festival appearance. The NTCMA was created by Bob Everhart around 1975 to promote and preserve Old Time Country, Gospel, Bluegrass and American roots music. Steadfastly true and dedicated to this commitment its annual week-long festivals eagerly attended by musicians and fans from around the world for 45 years came to a end with the passing of Bob Everhart on 20 August 2021.
