However, most of those songs got recorded on the Roughshod label with a country twist. In the summer of 2012 Mike signed talented multi-instrumentalist, James Adelsberger as a studio engineer to lay tracks for a couple of his songs, and thoroughly impressed with the session musician quality he quickly signed James as a Roughshod Records artist. Following the completion of James’ Old Time Country Songs Are They Really Dead and Gone?” and Mike’s “Doggone It I’ve Written a Sad Song Again” both in November 2014, James suggested they do a Christmas release. Mike could only find two suitable songs in his catalog (they don’t do covers) and on 4 December 2014, the 2-song CD single “Sidekicks Antics” featuring “Ho! Ho! Ho!” and “Put Out the Fire In the Fireplace” became You and Records very 1st release! Mike took the lead on the first song and James on the second song. Unfortunately, some personal, professional, professional, and scholastic priorities compelled James to resign from the label in January 2017, leaving the label with only 6 CDs produced. All total, including the pre-Roughshod releases and the Roughshod Records releases, since April 1981 Mike Johnson has produced two 45rpms, 11 cassettes, and 66 CDs, the last CD a Roughshod Records 20-song album “Best of the Mike Johnson James Adelsberger Years” released on 13 June 2024.
