Friday Night - Le Beat Route - 17 Greek St. London (1981-1982)

17 videos • 4,255 views • by Toby Walker Ollie O`Donnell, Chris Sullivan and Steve Mahoney, started a Friday night session at the Le Beat Route Club, 17 Greek Street, Soho. Deejays Steve Lewis and Plug played the music, which consisted of mainly new tunes at the time (with a few choice oldies thrown in for good measure). Many folks from Kingston (and the surrounding area), travelled to the club each week, mixing with the likes of George Michael, Boy George, August Darnell and members of Spandau Ballet (who mention the club in the lyrics of ‘Chant No.1’). The Beat Route set the standard for several clubs that followed, and the place was hugely political, with the deejays being very left wing..... Toby Walker 2018 www.soulwalking.co.uk
