The film would also be an underdog success that earned 10 Oscar nominations winning Best Editing, Best Director, and Best Picture in 1977. Now with Stallone behind the camera as Director, ‘Rocky II’ saw the green light and it was released in 1979 with greater commercial success and with Rocky fighting his way to the championship once again against Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Stallone will repeat all the way in ‘Rocky III’ (1982) when he loses the title against the mean Clubber Lang (Mr. T), in ‘Rocky IV’ (1985) when he fights the mighty Ivan Drago (Lundgren) from Russia, and in a later revisit of the franchise in 2006 with ‘Rocky Balboa’ when he has this urge to “release the sleeping beast” inside of him. ‘Rocky V’ was released in 1990 and was directed by John Avildsen, the same director as the original. The cast was also frequent in basically all the movies, until ‘Rocky Balboa’. We thank Sylvester Stallone for giving life to such a character and story.
